There is a timeless saying that goes “A fish with its mouth closed never gets caught.” I wish I had truly understood this principle earlier in life, it would have saved me from unnecessary setbacks, disappointments, and unfulfilled dreams. It is one of the most powerful lessons I have learned in recent years, yet it took years of experience, missteps, and reflection to fully appreciate it.

In today’s world, it is tempting to share our plans and next moves with friends, family, social media, and even strangers. Why? Because we crave validation, support, or perhaps a little admiration. But here is the truth: by revealing our plans prematurely, we expose ourselves to criticism, jealousy, and unnecessary pressure. Some people may not understand your vision, while others might secretly hope for your failure. Not everyone needs to know where you are going or how you plan to get there.

The most successful people are not the loudest; they are the most focused. They move in silence and allow their results to do the talking. A seed doesn’t sprout into a tree overnight, it grows quietly underground, hidden from the world, until it is ready to bloom. Your dreams and goals should be the same.

I have learned this the hard way. In the past, I was quick to announce my next move. I shared ideas and plans I hadn’t fully nurtured, and each time, I felt a little more drained when they didn’t materialize. Sometimes, I found myself battling others’ doubts instead of building confidence in my own ability to execute. The energy I could have used to take action was wasted on explaining, defending, or worrying about the opinions of others.

If I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be this: “Never expose your next step; just take the step. Move in silence, focus on the work, and let your success speak for itself.” Remember that those who need to see your progress will see it in time, and those who don’t matter won’t need to even know.

My dear reader, the world is full of opportunities, but it is also full of distractions and detractors. Protect your dreams like precious seeds. Plant them, water them, and nurture them in silence. And when the time is right, the world will see the harvest of your efforts.
